Empowering Lives

We work towards a better life for fisherman community, we believe in changing lives. One of the shining examples towards this is woman empowerment, yes we did helped a fisher woman stand on her feet and do look into the eyes of the world and say yes, I have got trained at Kakinada, I can take care of my family by fish cultivation, yes COFFED has helped me stand on my feet.

Key Milestones Since 1951

  • Formation of new fishermen self supporting society.
  • Starting up fisheries co-operative movement.
  • Obtained agriculture status for fisheries, enabling privileges like relief schemes, insurance, and loans.
  • Adoption of Inland Fisheries society as a Subsidiary organization of COFFED.
  • Launching of Janshree Bima Yojna (covering 64,000+ fishermen).
  • Providing fishermen credit cards to numerous co-operative societies.
  • Providing insurance coverage of ₹1,0,000 to members.
  • Establishing COFFED Gurukul for free education of poor fisherman kids.
  • Implementation of Bihar Jalkar Parbandhan Adhinium 2006.
  • Official notification of Fisherman Day on July 10th.
  • Training of more than 800 fishermen at Kakinada.
  • Distribution of subsidized medicine and feed supplements.
  • Comprehensive survey of ponds and tanks in the state.
  • Seven-year settlement period for Ponds and Jalkars.
  • Appointed 240 Bimamitra for insurance implementation.
  • Regular publication of annual reports for transparency.
  • Affiliation of 225+ fisheries co-operatives with COFFED.
  • Experimental supply of live fish at Patna.
  • Initiation of technical cell for modern fish farming approaches.
  • Compilation of all records and communiqués under RTI.
  • Affiliation with NAF and FISHCOPFED, New Delhi.
  • Obtained micro-insurance agency status from LIC & OIC.

Long Term Demands & Goals

  • Establishment of Technical and Promotional Cell in COFFED under NCDC scheme.
  • Appointment of COFFED representatives in every Fish Farmer Development Agency.
  • Raising the insurance amount from one lakh to five lakh rupees.
  • Honoring fishermen with state awards (Matasya Kishan Shri, Bhushan, Ratna) on July 10th.
  • Establishing a dedicated building similar to Haj Bhawan in Patna.
